By teenvogue. From rickshaws to saris to the Taj Mahal, Anna and her nieces give us an inside look at their colorful and cultural visit to India. By Jane Keltner de Valle. In a return to the swinging sixties, master hairstylist Garren created easy, cool hairstyles backstage at Anna Sui. Her collections are replete with references, processed and creatively reimagined through the filter of Anna Sui.
Unlike other popular American designers, Sui is driven by telling stories head-to-toe about the worlds of cowgirls, grunge girls, hippie chicks, hula girls, Mods, pirate rock stars, Pre-Raphaelite maidens, and surfer nomads. The exhibition gives insights into her process, allowing the viewer to step inside her imagination and watch it unfold.
It also spotlights her heroes as a youth and the importance of her collaborators, including the New York City Garment Center. The first iteration of this exhibition debuted at the Fashion and Textile Museum, London, in the summer of Roush, and The Douglas A. Hirsch and Holly S. Andersen Family Foundation in honor of Jane Holzer.
