How tall is cary grant

I do think by his 70s he possibly lost an inch. Angles are a bit dodgy but overall Grant stacks up well with him. About 1in tops between them. But in earlier stuff he did look at least 6ft1 Not need for a downgrade Rob.

I struggle to see him under 6ft1 peak. Some actors might have given shoe measurement, or they had an earlier measurement. It's not impossible Grant at one stage hit that mark, though there is also the case when some actors just add a fraction like 'half' to their height.

Well, you could make an argument for strong 6ft 1 at times. Maybe he measured 6ft 1. He was about an inch shorter than Basil Rathbone.

Nigel bruce and cary grant have same height 6'1. Click Here. Thanks, Mike. George Kennedy looked much taller in Charade as mentioned. I think Grant did have slightly poor posture with a rounded upper back and sloping shoulders.

There just isn't any decent evidence from his earlier career that give us a better idea. He became a big star much later and by then he'd already developed various health problems that he did a decent job of hiding on-screen caused mainly from self-indulgence.

Maybe not as extreme as Gable or Cooper but there's noticeable decline from the 40's to 50's In all of them, Grant looks I think Grant averaged a bit over 6 foot 1 in his day. I wager 1. What do you think? Possibly a half inch taller in his prime. He looked three inches shorter than 6'3'' Jimmy Stewart. Had he been taller, he would have been described being taller.

Both men lost height early though. By his last film, Grant was really not looking more than six foot even next to Jim Hutton. In Charade when Grant was near 60 years old he looked cm. George Kennedy maybe cm. Grant was maybe closer to 6ft and Kennedy was a solid 6ft4. About 4in between them. Coburn looked 6ft2 in that movie aswell.

No less than that for sure. No less than 6ft1 for sure. It sounds like he got measured officially. Looking at his earliest stuff, he could certainly pull it off. I think cm is arguable and earlier in the day was cm. But he did lose height early on so by the late 50's he maybe wasn't quite that. He quit in but it may have already done some damage.

Editor Rob: I think about 6ft 1 is ok for him, at times he did look above and even a bit below the mark He could certainly look 6'1. But by late s really looked around 6'0.

There's many movies where he is standing beside 5 ft 9 guys and they stand side by side. He was 28 when his Hollywood career began and after five years making films he worried he was becoming too old to become famous. James Stewart and Errol Flynn were already established stars. I think about 6ft 1 is ok for him, at times he did look above and even a bit below the mark I doubt he lost height until 20 or more years later.

There's hardly anything of him in his 20's's to go by. Coburn, Matthau and Kennedy were noticeably taller than him. A 6ft1 guy should be able to hold his own with guys between 6ft2 to 6ft4. I don't think Grant was ever a lift-wearer but it's possible Kennedy had some help as Kennedy looked huge, having quite a bit of height not only over Grant but also James Coburn, seemingly more than 2 inches difference.

Ford looks at least two inches taller, and if Ford was 6 foot even, grant was 5'10" in I could buy him getting measured at that in the morning and just going with it. But if he really stayed in that range into the evening, he'd be stacking up much better with guys from 6ft2 up to 6ft4. But he was pushing 60 by that stage. Difficult to see him taller than Mitchum and if Tony Curtis was really just 5'8.

I thought Grant looked the exact same height as Mitchum in the Grass is Greener, there's a scene in which they're stood very close for quite a long time.

Sam also thought they looked the same when Grant stood his best, but Steve reckons Mitchum had an inch on Grant.

He'd have been 55 by that period, did he lose height quite early? He doesn't look to have with Connery but in films of the 60s Grant could really look no more than 6 ft at times. If you watch Arsenic and Lace, Grant was eye to eye with Raymond Massey who could at times pull off look range with others.

Grant did look a decent 6'1" in the 30 and 40s. Should we assume then that he'd lost a bit by early 60s which accounts for Mitchum being the same height or as Steve says looking taller? See them if you can and tell us what you think. Certainly you can argue Grant in 6ft 0. Click Here Plus Grant had begun to look a little shorter in the late 50s that he did in 30s and 40s! But by the late 50s he really looked no more than 6', see him with Tony Curtis in Operation Petticoat for instance.

It's towards the end of the film. Perhaps as you said somewhere it's not good to judge people when moving, but they were both running similar. Not sure on road level, I think it was near cnetre of the road. A few things could explain it but if you really watch it you'll see what I mean, it really does look a big height loss compared to earlier in the movie which looks sus.

If you see it I think you'll believe the full 6 ft 5 for Jim. I've found some of his early 30s films which I'll be watching sometime, seen most from to at the end now. But really, Grat suddenly looked to lose near 2 inches next to him in comparison and looked nearer 5 ft 11!!

In the film Walk Don't Run he looked just about 6 ft 1 with 6'5" ish Hutton, although 6'0. However, later on they're in a Race walk and Grant is in sneakers like Hutton and suddenly he's lost a good inches and looks more 6 inches shorter and dwarfs him!!! The difference from earlier is very noticeable.

It seems to point to lifts. He looks near 2 inches shorter than he did next to him earlier in the film. Now was he wearing lifts in his earlier films too? I have a big cary grant box set to watch one spare week, so I might pay some attention to anything like that Click Here A picture from that film with Sinatra and Grant, the latter could look 6 inches taller there.

Click Here Good find on the photo with Connery, never thought there'd be a picture with those two. Totally shrimped him! Documentary performer: "Did I Remember" - uncredited. Who's your Lady Friend? Hide Show Thanks 2 credits. Cary Grant.
